How This Review Works
I am Kevin, the founder of ZJani Watches. I have been building Seiko mod watches for 12 years and have shipped to over 12,000 buyers worldwide. I have a commercial interest in positive reviews of our watches.
I am going to review our own watches honestly — including the criticisms — because in 12 years the buyers who are most satisfied are the ones who bought with accurate expectations. I will score each watch out of 10 across five categories: movement quality, crystal and finishing, daily wearability, value for specification, and buyer feedback over time. I will also list the honest criticisms of each watch and of ZJani as a brand.
If a competitor's watch is better than ours for a specific buyer situation, I will say so. That is the only review worth reading.
Blue Speed Mod Watch — Full Review
Movement: VK64 Japanese meca-quartz · Score 9/10
The VK64 from Seiko Instruments is the strongest meca-quartz movement available at this price point. Quartz accuracy of ±15 seconds per month. Genuine mechanical chronograph module — the pushers engage a real mechanism, not an electronic simulation. The central seconds hand sweeps continuously rather than ticking. The reset snap-back is decisive and immediate. Battery every 3 years. The single point deducted: battery dependency versus an automatic movement, which some buyers prefer on principle regardless of the practical difference.
Crystal and Finishing: Score 9/10
Genuine sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Optically clear at direct angles, slight blue-green tint at oblique angles from the AR coating — a quality indicator, not a defect. Dial alignment precise on every unit we have inspected. Hand centering correct. Case finishing clean without visible tool marks. The point deducted: the brushed case finish is not as refined as watches at three times the price — it is correct for the price but noticeable under close examination.
Daily Wearability: Score 9.5/10
50 metres water resistance with screw-down crown. Rubber sport strap comfortable for extended wear. 40mm case diameter with 47.5mm lug-to-lug — fits most wrists correctly. The chronograph is functional and used regularly by the vast majority of buyers. In 12 years of buyer feedback, the Blue Speed generates more daily comments from strangers than any other watch in our collection.
Value for Specification: Score 10/10
No watch at $249.95 offers a named VK64 movement, genuine sapphire crystal, functional chronograph, and 50 metres water resistance with a 2-year warranty from a builder with 12 years of verified history. The specification per dollar is exceptional at this price.
Buyer Feedback Over Time: Score 9/10
Consistent 4.8/5 across 12,868 verified buyers. The most common positive themes: pusher action, sapphire clarity, colour reactions from other people. The most common criticism: buyers who wanted more dial colour options beyond the current range.
Overall Blue Speed Score: 9.2/10
"I have owned the Blue Speed for thirteen months of daily wear. The sapphire crystal is identical to day one. The VK64 has not lost a second in accuracy beyond the rated tolerance. The pusher action is exactly what it was on arrival. Nothing has changed except my confidence in recommending it. The 9/10 score Kevin gives it is honest — the only thing missing is the brand heritage a Swiss watch would bring. Everything else is there."

Green Milsub Vintage Mod Watch — Full Review
Movement: NH35 Japanese automatic · Score 9.5/10
The NH35 from Seiko Instruments is the most reliable automatic movement available at under $300 — and at most price points above it. 24 jewels. Hacking second hand. Manual winding. 42-hour power reserve. ±10 seconds per day accuracy. Worldwide service availability. Decades of documented reliability data. The half point deducted: ±10 sec/day is correct for this movement class but less precise than quartz. For buyers who want accuracy above mechanical character, the VK64 is the better answer.
Crystal and Finishing: Score 9.5/10
Genuine sapphire crystal, optically exceptional. Matte green bezel correctly finished — the matte surface is authentic to the military heritage reference and does not show wear in the way a polished bezel would. No-date dial clean and uncluttered. Lume application correct on hands and indices. The half point deducted: the bezel insert fit, while correct, is occasionally noted by buyers as slightly less precise than the dial finishing — a minor observation at this price.
Daily Wearability: Score 9.5/10
200 metres water resistance — the highest in our collection. Screw-down crown. Rubber dive strap. 40mm case diameter. The Milsub is the most capable daily wear watch in our collection in terms of water resistance and active use durability. Buyers who dive, surf, swim, and travel report it as the ideal single-watch solution.
Value for Specification: Score 10/10
200 metres water resistance, NH35 automatic, sapphire crystal, and military heritage aesthetic at $249.95. Comparable specifications from Seiko's own retail range cost significantly more. The value per specification is the strongest in our collection.
Buyer Feedback Over Time: Score 9.5/10
The Milsub generates the most consistently emotional buyer feedback of any watch we build. Buyers describe the winding ritual, the connection to military watch history, and the reactions from watch collectors who recognise the reference. The most common criticism: buyers who wanted a date complication — which is a legitimate preference the Milsub does not satisfy by design.
Overall Green Milsub Score: 9.4/10
"Nine months of daily wear including six dive sessions, two overseas trips, and every gym session I have had. The crystal is perfect. The bezel clicks correctly. The NH35 runs within three seconds per day consistently. The 200 metres rating has been tested in real conditions. The 9.4/10 is generous in some ways and conservative in others — for what it does and what it costs, nothing in this category touches it."

Ice Speed Mod Watch — Full Review
Movement: VK64 Japanese meca-quartz · Score 9/10
Same VK64 as the Blue Speed — identical movement, identical reliability, identical pusher action and snap-back. The score is the same as the Blue Speed for the same reasons.
Crystal and Finishing: Score 9.5/10
Genuine sapphire crystal. The ice white and gold dial finishing is the most refined in our collection — the gold indices have depth and clarity that reads as considerably more expensive than the price. Buyers who have shown the Ice Speed to Swiss watch owners consistently report that the dial is the element that impresses most. The half point deducted: the white dial shows dust and fingerprints more readily than darker dials — microfibre wipe needed more frequently in daily wear.
Daily Wearability: Score 9/10
50 metres water resistance. 40mm case. The Ice Speed is the most context-versatile watch in our collection — it works at a formal dinner and a weekend lunch without adjustment. The single point deducted: the white dial is more conservative than the Blue Speed for buyers who want a watch that demands attention in casual settings.
Value for Specification: Score 10/10
VK64, sapphire crystal, gold dial finishing, functional chronograph at $249.95. The Ice Speed consistently receives comments about looking significantly more expensive than its price — which is the most direct form of value validation.
Buyer Feedback Over Time: Score 9/10
Consistent positive feedback focused on dial elegance and versatility. The most common themes: looks expensive, works everywhere, generated unexpected reactions from watch collectors. The most common criticism: buyers who wanted the bold colour impact of the Blue Speed but ordered the Ice Speed for versatility — occasionally wishing they had both.
Overall Ice Speed Score: 9.1/10
"I bought the Ice Speed because I wanted one watch for everything. Fourteen months later it is still the only watch I own and the only watch I need. The dial is the thing people comment on most — the gold indices under direct light have a depth that surprises people who look closely. My father, who collects Swiss watches, said the finishing was better than some watches he owns at considerably higher prices. 9.1 is a fair score. The missing 0.9 is brand heritage. Everything else is there."

JB Classic Mod Watch — Full Review
Movement: NH35 Japanese automatic · Score 9.5/10
Same NH35 as the Green Milsub — identical movement, identical reliability. Score identical to the Milsub for the same reasons.
Crystal and Finishing: Score 9.5/10
Genuine sapphire crystal. Ceramic bezel — rated approximately Mohs 9, scratch-resistant to the same degree as sapphire. Nine-piece solid steel bracelet with brushed and polished finishing. The ceramic bezel is the specification detail that generates the most consistent buyer commentary — it looks the same after years of daily wear because ceramic does not scratch from daily contact. The half point deducted: the steel bracelet clasp, while correct, is occasionally noted as less refined than the case and bezel finishing.
Daily Wearability: Score 9.5/10
50 metres water resistance. Steel bracelet adjustable for wrist size. NH35 automatic charges throughout the day from wrist movement — no battery consideration. The JB Classic is the most professionally appropriate watch in our collection and consistently described by buyers as working correctly in environments where other watches in the range would be too casual or too bold.
Value for Specification: Score 10/10
Ceramic bezel, steel bracelet, NH35 automatic, sapphire crystal at $249.95. Comparable specifications from mainstream watch brands cost $500 to $800. The JB Classic's value for specification is the strongest argument for the Seiko mod category as a whole.
Buyer Feedback Over Time: Score 9.5/10
The JB Classic generates the most consistent professional context feedback of any watch we build. Buyers report it as the watch that earned attention from Rolex and Omega owners who examined the ceramic bezel and asked where it was made. The most common criticism: buyers who wanted a date complication — which the JB Classic does not have.
Overall JB Classic Score: 9.3/10
"I have worn the JB Classic to every client meeting for ten months. The ceramic bezel looks identical to day one. The NH35 runs within five seconds per day. The steel bracelet has not shown wear. A senior partner at my firm — who wears a Submariner — looked at the bezel closely and said he could not tell the difference between our ceramic bezels at a glance. That is the correct outcome for a professional watch. 9.3 is right. The missing 0.7 is the Seiko or Rolex name. The specification is there."

Honest Criticisms — What ZJani Does Not Offer
A review that does not include criticisms is marketing. Here are the honest limitations of ZJani Watches as a brand and our watches as products.
No brand heritage. ZJani Watches has 12 years of history. Seiko has 143 years. Omega has 175 years. If wearing a watch with heritage behind the name matters to you, we cannot provide it. This is a legitimate reason to choose a differently priced or differently positioned watch.
No resale market. ZJani watches have no meaningful secondary market. If you might want to sell in five years and recover significant value, do not buy from us. Buy a genuine Seiko, a Tudor, or an entry-level Swiss watch with an established collector market.
No authorised service network. Any competent watchmaker can service an NH35 or VK64. But we do not have authorised service centres in every city. If this matters to you, a watch from a brand that does is the correct choice.
No date complication. None of our watches currently includes a date display. If a date window is important to your daily use, our current collection does not satisfy that requirement.
Case finishing is correct but not exceptional. At $249.95 the case finishing is appropriate. Under close examination at extreme magnification it does not compare to the finishing on watches at five to ten times the price. We do not claim otherwise.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are ZJani watches worth buying?
Yes — for the right buyer. Named Japanese movement, sapphire crystal, real warranty, 12 years of verified history at $249.95. If brand heritage, resale value, or an authorised service network matter to you, we are not the right answer. For a full analysis: Is a Seiko Mod Watch Worth Buying in 2026?
How long do ZJani watches last?
Indefinitely with appropriate maintenance. NH35 service every 3-5 years. VK64 battery every 3 years. Beyond these intervals, there is no design reason a ZJani watch should not perform correctly for decades.
What is the best ZJani watch to buy first?
Answer the chronograph question: do you want one or not? No → Green Milsub. Yes → Blue Speed.

How do I contact ZJani Watches?
Email support@zjaniwatches.com. Kevin reads every email personally and responds within 24 hours.
Kevin's note: Reviewing my own watches is uncomfortable. The instinct is to score everything highly and omit the criticisms. I have resisted that instinct because in 12 years the buyers who trust us most are the ones who found us through honest information — not through marketing that oversold and underdelivered. The scores in this review are accurate. The criticisms are real. If they describe a situation that applies to you — buy elsewhere and buy confidently. If they do not apply to you — welcome to ZJani Watches. Email me at support@zjaniwatches.com and I will confirm which watch is right for your situation before you spend a penny.
The Bottom Line

The Green Milsub at 9.4/10 is the strongest overall watch in the collection. The Blue Speed at 9.2/10 is the strongest chronograph. The JB Classic at 9.3/10 is the strongest professional watch. The Ice Speed at 9.1/10 is the most versatile. Use code GIFT80 at checkout.
